Cartooning with Hani Abbas

We are pleased to welcome once again Hani Abbas, a Syrian-Palestinian cartoonist, for a residency on the theme of Global Citizenship for the Middle School. He exhibited some of his works, along with student drawings, at the vernissage on 12 December 2022 from 16:00 to 18:00.
Hani Abbas was born in 1977 in the Palestinian refugee camp of Yarmouk in Syria. Threatened by the Syrian secret services because of his political drawings, he had to flee his country. Having sought asylum in Switzerland, he is now living in Geneva and continues to denounce the atrocities of war through his drawings.
He is also a member of the international Cartooning for Peace network, founded by twelve international cartoonists in October 2006 on the initiative of Nobel Peace Prize winner and former UN Secretary General Kofi Annan, and Plantu, cartoonist for Le Monde. As such, it is committed to defending fundamental freedoms, in particular freedom of expression, as defined in Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights: "Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression; this right includes freedom to hold opinions without interference and to seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any media and regardless of frontiers".
